Sunny Johal, Director of real estate business Detail, recently took part in a podcast episode for Pegasus Radio talking to Pegasus Search’s Paul Micallef about all things Real Estate. Listen to the full podcast here.
Detail is a unique and dynamic business, offering a range of real estate services from land acquisition to construction. Sunny explains that “Detail as a business has been structured in a way where we are able to self-deliver. Detail is still quite an embryonic company – which allows for more flexibility and actually allows Detail to be a bit bolder in their approach to things.”
Despite the challenges presented in 2020, Sunny is optimistic about the residential market, particularly in the sectors that Detail work in. Investors are increasingly opening their eyes to new opportunities in the regions and according to Sunny “London isn’t the only place you need to be as a business or working professional to be successful.”
Due to the on-going Covid-19 pandemic, the tiny inner-city flat London has become less attractive. The regions offer the opportunity for more of a work/life balance and the possibility of more disposable income for people to enjoy themselves.
“If you’re going to call Covid one thing, it would probably have to be an accelerator on all fronts.”
Delving into his career in real estate, Sunny speaks about working as a labourer and his four years spent in construction. “Working in construction helped me develop a sense of urgency and a sense of appreciation for what it really takes to truly build.” This luck extends to working with some very experienced people in the industry.
One of the core values that Sunny embodies is continued investment in the community. Detail are always giving back to the communities in which they operate, extending across the entire supply chain.
Throughout the podcast, Sunny discussed the importance of diversifying the work force in an effort to make the construction industry more inclusive. The more diverse and inclusive a team is, the more chance a business will have of being successful and achieving its goals.
Sunny recalled the best career advice he has ever received: “What you want for yourself, want for others – bring others along on the journey with you….We spend 90,000 hours of our lives at work – if you can create an environment at work that’s about giving and not taking, the individuals become happier and more productive.”
